The Pinellas County School District is the
22nd largest district in the nation and seventh largest in the
State of Florida. Situated in the middle of Florida’s west
coast, Pinellas County is home to more than 148,000
pre-kindergarten through adult public school students.
The average teacher/pupil ratio is 1:23 for
Kindergarten through Grade 3, 1:28 for grades 4-5 and 1:30 for
middle and high schools, although this will continue to change
as the district implements the state’s reduced classroom size
initiative. Pinellas County Schools has a long tradition of
providing enhanced opportunities through magnets and fundamental
schools. For over twenty years, programs have existed to give
students the greatest number of possibilities for defining their
own education. From the arts to the sciences, advanced
technology to fundamental learning, Pinellas County’s Magnet and
Fundamental Programs offer it all.
There are over 70 private and parochial schools for grades pre-K
through 12 with an approximate enrollment of 15,000. Annual
tuition ranges anywhere from $1,500 annually to over $12,000.
Pinellas County is currently using a School
Choice program rather than traditional districting. If you are
planning to enroll a child in school, find out about Choice
deadlines and boundaries at www.pinellas.k12.fl.us.
